Teresa Cunniff’s sculpture and installations are lyrical depictions of the wonders and grotesqueries of life’s myriad manifestations. Science, ecology, fantasy, and religion collide in constructed fictitious scenarios where one can experience a basic awareness of self and surroundings. The work capitalizes on the propensity to anthropomorphize other species. It provides a framework in which to consider how we regard other life forms, the extent other species’ experience is similar to our own, and the abundant legacy and multi-dimensional aspects of the living world, always posing the question – what is it to be alive?
